Taste the Rockies...

This past week Mike and I took a trip to Colorado to visit our good friend and former roommate Laura S. We wanted to surprise her, which was a success, but that meant riding around for a day or so in the jumpseats of her pick-up truck since we couldn't pre-plan to have her switch to a larger car! Riding sideways was never so much fun! The surprise wouldn't have worked without the tall tales of Mike C. who always seems to be there for the good times and the bad alongside us! He told Laura that he had to return to the airport to sign papers for work that were needed for an upcoming work-related trip! When she arrived, as you can guess, there was no one from work, just two good friends. We had a great time exploring the Coors Brewing Company and old gold rush towns with quaint streets and shops. Somehow we found time to play the slots in Blackhawk (the Las Vegas of CO). Leaving $5 poorer was okay because we got to enjoy the $5.99 Prime Rib lunch =) As we drove around, Laura told us some of the history of Colorado, which we enjoyed along with the spectacular views or the mountains and the prairies. Laura lives in a cute studio apartment next to what should be the site for the TV show "Prairie Dog Manor" (reference to Meerkat Manor). Four people in a studio with one bed is fun, but her parents were gracious enough to open their home to us for the rest of the week! They built their own home in the foothills and it sure is gorgeous , both inside and out. They live about 9,000 ft above sea level which was a pre-cursor to a bit of an upset tummy and stuffy head. I consoled myself with Reader's Digest, board games and baking, lots of baking! All in all we had a great time and Colorado is a beautiful place. Plus, it's always fun to travel with your husband =)
